CAMELIAS

"Camelias" - Tango lyrics trio The argentine tango is a trinity of music, dance and poetry. For argentineans it is not just the lyrics but especially the poetry and the stories that are told that are just as important. The music contains sad complaints of fate in a 2/4- stroke. The recurrent themes of the lyrics depict the poor and homesick immigrants’, unhappy love, the woman who chose another man. The lyrics of Tango portray the stories of immigrants told by those who founded Argentina. For almost a century ago, when tango was born, the texts were inspired by the European immigrants' longings and sufferings in their new country. Tango in Argentina has had its ups and downs during the last centuries’ political and social change. The music and lyrics have been described as sad, full of love, about society, the up-and downs of life, depression and joy. Melancholy is a recurring theme. Tango has always evolved with the path of time without loosing its strong roots and is growing today more than ever finding inroads in many cities around the world. "Camelias" is a tango lyric-trio consisting of bandoneonist Paolo Russo, conductor Saul Zaks and translator Camilla Skjødt. We offer an evening of tango poems read aloud in combination with a free Danish interpretation together with live tango music. This unique experience presents both original and unknown works. Intimacy and passion are the keywords. |
